The Employment Rights Bill is now in the House of Lords committee stage and on track to pass into law before Parliament’s summer recess in late July.
The Bill aims to enhance protection for workers and there are 28 areas of Employment Law covered in the proposed changes, some of these are:
- Job security: Banning exploitive zero hours contracts, ending unscrupulous ‘fire and rehire’ and day one right to protection from unfair dismissal
- Family Friendly rights: Changes to existing Paternity leave and unpaid Parental leave and the right to have unpaid Bereaved leave
- Fairness Equality and Wellbeing: Strengthen the employers’ duty to prevent sexual harassment of their employees
- Fair pay: Improve Statutory Sick Pay by removing the lower earnings limit (LEL) and waiting period
